Um, oh crap. I have not been around online at all. It's been like a million years since I last posted. I won't even try to bring you up to speed since there's not that much to say about maternity leave. I'm having a great time and I'm also bored. I go places. I've started running again and that's been good. It's been an intense family month with a bar mitzvah coming right after the holidays and Pita's grandfather getting sick again. He had a small stroke and is expected to make a good recovery, but he is 80 and we are all worried. I went into the office once and it was so great to see everyone that I stayed an embarrasingly long time.  I've been hanging out with my friend Indigo who has a baby 1 month younger than Lilah. We go into the city and shop and go to museums and have elaborate lunches.  My house is clean on a pretty regular basis.

Lilah is still pretty easygoing. She cries when she is tired and sometimes she cries a lot when she is tired. She is very social and has been really enjoying all of the parties and family events. She is extremely cute.  She eats well, still sleeps well and seems to be healthy so far. She coos, reaches for things and puts them in her mouth. She is swaddled for sleeping and naps on her tummy. I think she weighs about 13 lbs now. She goes to sleep at 7-8 and sleep about 12 hours with one or two wakings, the first one at about 3-4.

She has a beautiful smile

She's a remarkably beautiful child. Here she is after a bath:

On a typical day she wakes up in our bed. I don't usually put her back in her cradle after feeding her unless she is very very wiggly.

Mommy makes coffee and Aba snuggles her and then changes her.

Then she sits with Mommy and reads her book about babies and their faces while Mommy reads the paper.

Then Aba leaves for work - Bye Aba!

Then it's time to eat this rattle until she gets tired. I shower, do dishes and laundry.  Sometimes I wear her in the Moby around the house. Yesterday the cat took a massive crap in the middle of the dog's bed. That was exciting.

In the afternoon we got for a walk in the Ergo. Sometimes we just go to the park, sometimes we take the bus to Bart and run errands. Sometimes we have the car.

Then in the afternoon are more naps of differing lengths and then Mommy starts dinner. Eventually Aba comes home! Yay!

Good to read your post! Sounds like all of you are doing well. I really enjoyed the adorable photos and it was neat that you posted them as a way to explain your day. Sorry about the cat crap.

To be fair to Mazzycat it was pouring outside and she doesn't have a litter inside. She tried to go out a bunch of times and then finally decided to crap in the dog's bed to make a real point about it. Like I control the weather.

I love this! She is beautiful, and I love the way you talk about her. Do you know any other people with babies who are home during the day? It would probably be too much trouble to really go out and meet them since you are about to not be home during the day, but I like having babies around a lot more when I have coworkers. Not that you don't like it. It just makes it less boring.

Candy just had a baby and tarheel_born has a little baby too. I've gone over to both of their houses to hang out. Indigo lives in the South Bay but she is just more motivated so she gets me out of the house. Sometimes it just seems like too much effort to go out. But I agree about the coworkers concept! That's the real thing I have trouble with - no coworkers = boring day.

She really is cute, M. You aren't kidding. Maternity leave--it took me a while to get into it. You have to go with the zen aspect. I never understood being totally in the present until I had a baby. Once I figured out how to deal with it I kind of dug it.

It's hard for me too. I feel like I don't get anything done and the things i do get done are things I don't like to do. Like clean up cat crap. I handle the shit of several other sentient beings on a regular basis.

I've been wondering about you guys. I'm so glad you're doing well. She is gorgeous. I love that you can Pocket, Aba. I wish we'd done that. I love it when I hear it. Do you go by mom or Ima?

So you like that bumbo thing? We never had one, but I was considering one for Micah. I guess he's ready for it now.

I really love the Bumbo! Actually this is a bebepod. The Bumbo has a deeper seat so it can be used a few weeks earlier, but the Bebepod has a tray so snacks and toys can be placed on it. I think they are pretty much the same thing.

She is a good companion! I can't believe what a real baby she's become. She isn't a squidgy little newborn any more. she a full-sized baby.

Wow, she's gotten so BIG! And she really IS an exceptionally beautiful child. I'm very impressed with you, too - sounds like you're getting things done, on the move, etc etc. When my babies were little all I could think about was sitting down or even better, lying down, and how exhausted I was all the time.

It's because she sleeps. We were at a bar mitzvah this weekend and our friends Danny and Ann came over - their son is 2 and took 6 ivf cycles to conceive - and they were like - Fuck you! She sleeps, doesn't she? We can tell just by looking at you! - We aren't sleep-deprived at all.

She can't keep that nose though. she has to have my nose. It looks good on Pita, but I don't think she can have a nose that big.

I mean, really, what's the point of maternity leave if not to spend excessive time online?

Your daughter is gorgeous.

ok, i confess.... i got the audiobook of diana gabaldon's new book and have been spending excessive time in the 18th century. she's kind of phoning it in at this point but i'm enjoying it anyway the sex scenes are much less hot when read by an older english woman. not that i don't appreciate the scrotum, but it loses sexiness to have it described.

She's just so gorgeous! I'm so happy you got a good sleeper, it makes all the difference in the world.

Maternity leave is funny like that. By the time you get it figured out and you are having fun and getting out and going places, it comes to an end. Enjoy the next month. The last month of my leave was great, lots of museums and lunches and walks, good times.

She is so gorgeous! I love her "WTF, why is that baby staring at me" expression in the pic of her reading.

I was cracking up at your description of your day. I've been home this week with Natalie and I feel like it's sort of the same--I alternate between being bored and loving it.

I know, she's like - how did that baby get in there and why is he looking at me?

Right after the cat crapped I was on the phone telling Pita all about it and then thought to myself how sad that was.

I'm glad you're doing well. She is just lovely. And it's true - sleep is everything. The only catch is that if you have a couple of bad nights in a row, you're totally not used to it and it's like torture.
