Hooray! Happy Lost Day to me, Happy Lost Day to me, Happy Lost day, dear Pocket, Happy Lost day to me! The big question is does Charlie die or not? I think he doesn’t die because it’s been so hyped, and that this is some kind of BSG Starbuck Death Trick. I’ve been pretty convinced he dies, but now I am having second thoughts. Is the point of this story that you can change fate through time travel and premonitions? Or is the point that you can’t change fate? It makes a big difference, IMO. This is one of the big supernatural mysteries of the island. What is the nature of Desmond’s premonitions? Darlton (the producers) have said that he really did travel back in time. So far that story line has said that something on the island can give a person foreknowledge and that they can affect outcomes in a limited way but that fate is ultimately sealed. So if Charlie dies, that means that fate is inevitable and all we can do is act out our destiny with style and meaning. But is Charlie lives, that means that foreknowledge, and probably whatever other powers the island gives you, can change fate.
Since we know that the Numbers are part of the Valenzetti Equation which predicts the end of humanity, and that DIHF (Dharma Initiative/Hanso Foundation) were, at least in part, researching the Valenzetti Equation, is it possible that whether Charlie lives or dies holds the answer to whether you can change the Valenzetti Equation and save the human race? What do you think?
