It is VERY long. But I am wildly curious about what the Island magic is. It's clearly science fiction, so what the heck is it? If it were horror then we could just give it a haunted house explanation - it's happening because it's haunted. If it were fantasy we could just give it a fantasy explanation - it's happening because it's in a pretend universe. But once they establish that it's science fiction they have to tie it down somehow.
